OOPS: An old entry I never posted!
--------------------------
Every year, I start off by writing a letter to my students, and asking them to write me one in return. I love learning about each and every one of my students; I take in all the bits and pieces of information regarding families, hobbies, hopes, and fears about school, and use this knowledge to build stronger, genuine relationship with my 6th and 8th graders.
Letter writing holds special meaning for me because it's how I communicated with my mother while she lived in Japan during my middle and high school years. This was in the era before Skype, when phone calls and phone calling cards were the only way to effectively contact someone overseas.
These days, we are overwhelmed with the various methods of communication available right at our fingertips (literally). Although I will be forever grateful for new telecommunication services like Skype, as it makes the current distance between my mom and I feel smaller, I don't regret growing up in a time where handwritten letters were valued, and I hope to keep the art alive!

Who is someone special you can write to and make his or her day?
